Gingerbread (kind of)

 Bertha Hawxhurst Tyson

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

1 c shortening (scant)
1 c sour milk (if you lack this, sub by adding 1 TBL apple cider vinegar to good milk)
1/4 tsp salt
1 c brown sugar, packed
1 c unsulphured dark brown molasses
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
2 eggs
3 c flour

~ Mix all ingredients only enough to mix the flour throughout, do not break down the shortening; let it remain lumpy.
  ~ Bake in a greased pan at 350 F for 50 minutes.
Bertha Hawxhurst Tyson made this every day for her (large) family.
