Boston Brown Bread

Bertha Charity Hawxhurst (Tyson)

Boston Brown Bread
Ingredients:
1 c graham or rye flour
1 c corn meal
½ c wheat flour
1½ c sour milk (add vinegar if regular milk needs to be used)
1 c brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt

~ Mix ingredients.
~ Steam for 3 hours and dry in oven

This recipe was made by Bertha Hawxhurst Tyson nearly every Saturday night for years, and was “much enjoyed by the 14-person family” wrote Elizabeth Tyson (Tilton).
